Maintenance knowledge of Pump Pressure Switch

If your well pump is not working properly, you may need to repair the pressure switch. This can be a fairly straightforward repair if you follow safety guidelines. Before you attempt to repair the pressure switch yourself, you should first turn off the power to your well pump system. You will also need to remove the plastic cover. Then, you can check the internals of the switch.A clogged sensor or leaking water from the switch is a good indication that your switch needs to be replaced. Some other causes of a faulty pressure switch are humidity, excessive cycling of power, and debris inside the switch.
Depending on the make and model of your pressure switch, you can also use a non-contact voltage tester to test for power. Turning the nut differential will raise the cut-out pressure.Another indicator of a faulty pressure switch is the presence of small holes or arcs when the switch is open. These holes indicate that the contacts are not making full contact.Cleaning the contacts can be a temporary fix, though. Simply use fine grit sandpaper to rub between the contacts. Alternatively, you can remove the cover and file away the damaged area.
When the switch has been cleaned, it is important to make sure that it is still functioning properly. Check that the switch is rated to match your well pump's motor. Also, ensure that the contacts are black. If you need to replace your pressure switch, you can do so by following the directions on the manufacturer's technical sheet. Your new switch should have the same range of pressure that your old switch had.
